Abstract: This article does not exactly replicate the final version published in the Journal of Swiss Psychology. It is not a copy of the original published article and is not suitable for citation. Modelling techniques play an important role in psychological research. This article discusses the formalism of discrimination nets. Using the CHREST architecture as an example, we show how this formalism can account for behaviour in various domains, such as the acquisition of language and expertise. We conclude by discussing the advantages and disadvantages offered by discrimination nets.
