Abstract: A computational analysis of the impact on energy use of green and cool roofing techniques applied to a typical steel goods storage building in five distinct climates whilst considering the local thermal building practice of each region is presented. The green roof simulations show a consistently positive impact on energy efficiency. The cool roof simulations indicate overall energy savings in hot/dry and hot/humid climates where the rejection of solar heat gain leads to reduced cooling load. Significant energy use reduction is predicted for less well insulated structures. CO2 emissions reduction is dependent on fuel use for heating/cooling in each region.
