Tuesday 25 April – Brunel Institute for Bioengineering Founded in 1983 by Professor Heinz Wolff, BIB specialises in science and engineering for space, health care and contract work for industry. The institute has developed an international reputation for its research and innovative developments and has incubated a number of spin-out companies that are taking the fruits of its research into the market place. Professor Ian Sutherland is Director of BIB. His early research at the Medical Research Council pioneered drug infusion as well as drug separation technology. He helped develop the space science and engineering team at BIB, culminating in a number of successful space missions using their Glovebox technology. The talents of this team have helped him build an international reputation in bioprocessing as the only group in the world working on the technology at this scale. He plays a leading role in the academic community and chaired the first international conference held at Brunel University.en
