dc.description.abstract | On the 21st April 2011, the Supreme Court of Pakistan by two votes against one reversed the Appeal Court’s decision that had found the appellants guilty of the gang rape of Mukhtaran Bibi (or Mukhtar Mai), an incident that had taken place in June 2002, in the Meerwala village in the area of Punjab in North Pakistan. The judgement provoked the outrage of the international human rights community and is indicative of the failure to guarantee equality and respect for women in Pakistan. | en_US |
