Abstract: | In December 2019, a novel virus was identified in Wuhan, China. At first, the Western media reported on the news coming from China only in passing. However, the events in Wuhan would soon prove to be not merely of local or regional interest, but would turn out to be of such magnitude so as to rightfully earn their place in the history books. This new virus – a strain of coronavirus – was named severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The disease caused by SARS-CoV-2 has come to be known as Coronavirus disease 2019, or simply as COVID-19. |
