Sexual and Gender-Based Violence in Higher Education in Brazil

Abstract

This report presents the findings from fieldwork conducted in Brazil as part of a four-country study, FemIDEAS: Transforming Theory, Policy, and Practice to Decolonise Sexual and Gender-Based Violence in Higher Education. The FemIDEAS project investigates sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) within higher education (HE) institutions to deepen our understanding of the issue and to develop more effective approaches to prevention, response, and support for those who experience it. The study is grounded in decolonial, intersectional, feminist, and abolitionist principles, and is centred on the experiences and needs of victim survivors. Across the project, we are conducting interviews and analysing policies, procedures, and activism in four countries: Argentina, Brazil, Nigeria, and South Africa. Brazil was the third country we visited as part of this study.
