Abstract: Following completion of my PhD viva in August 2010, I was fortunate enough to secure a Senior Lectureship at the University of Roehampton. I was able to gain this role because of my teaching experience; throughout my full time doctorate, I had undertaken up to 10 hours of teaching a week at London Metropolitan University on the BA Education programme. I gained a lot of experience from leading modules exploring how identity and policy influenced practice. The modules I taught included Women and Education; Gender, Education and Empire; and Perspectives on Curriculum and Knowledge. An important aspect of leading on these modules was ensuring that kept up to date on reading and developments in these relevant subject areas to ensure I had up to date reading lists for my students, and this enabled them to become conscient of key debates and developments in the field of education.
