| Abstract: | Fertility, marriage, and childbearing myths refer to widely held, but false, beliefs that shape societal expectations about gender roles, reproduction, and family structures. These myths disproportionately burden women, idealizing marriage and motherhood as universal aspirations while stigmatizing deviations from these norms. This entry examines how these myths intersect with menstruation-related topics, including fertility, reproductive health, and societal expectations of women’s bodies. It explores how cultural, historical, and religious narratives continue to reinforce gender inequality, while highlighting feminist, womanist, and intersectional critiques that challenge these stereotypes. The entry discusses the origins and persistence of these myths in media, pop culture, and global contexts, and underscores the importance of education and scientific evidence in debunking them. |
